Walk Until the Map Turns Blue

By Ann Farley

Residents and visitors come to Southwest DC for museums, art, and culture – and for the experience of being by the water. When I think of Southwest, DC, I immediately picture the Potomac and the Wharf area, with all the shades of blue and all the activities that can take place on and in the water. Soaking up the sun and splashing in fountains makes everyone feel like a kid again. There’s a song I like that says, “drive until the map turns blue,” and I know that when I reach blue water, my heart rate slows, and I feel a sense of peace. Just being by the water is relaxing and rejuvenating, and I’d love to remind the neighborhood that this sense of peace and calm is just a few steps away.
