Squirrelly Zen

By Tracie Griffith Tso

Traffic may be no match for pesky yet meditative urban wildlife. Treat curbside city woes and road rage with the tranquility of a Springtime composition featuring Southwest DC’s Midcentury barrel houses, Jefferson Middle School Academy, and lights at L’Enfant Plaza. Squirrels are symbols of resourcefulness, energy, and longevity. Cherry blossoms accent the scene; these represent renewal, optimism, and strength, while water is the element of wisdom and endurance. Graceful swallows are said to bring prosperity and good fortune and crown the vignette with a sunrise of hope. Griffith Tso’s work was last seen in Southwest DC as the National Cherry Blossom’s Art in Bloom chair public sculpture.
