Neighbors Below

By Peijisan Art

This illustration is an interpretation of the local river waters that make the SW Waterfront area so unique. The box highlights things in nature that we may not always pay attention to but are vital gifts to us all. Additionally, it brings out the playful side of how nature interacts by showing a mother duck, with ducklings in tow, poking her head down to see the creatures below. Beneath the water’s surface, we find other native species such as the blue crab, large striped rockfish, and oysters. It is a reminder of how amazing our local environment is and to stay in touch with nature. The choice to use a simple red and white palette throughout references the DC flag.
