Quack-tastic Fun at the 6th Annual Duck Pond Party!

We welcomed duck enthusiasts to the most quack-tacular event of the year – the 6th Annual Duck Pond Party! This year’s celebration was a blast, overflowing with activities for every age group. The best parts of this year’s event highlighted our appreciation for community, parks, and the return of our beloved feathered companions.

First things first, let’s talk about our star of the show – the official 2024 artist’s duck! This year, we were honored to feature the vibrant and modern artwork of TRAP BOB, who crafted a majestic wood duck native to DC. With its intense colors and contemporary design, TRAP BOB’s duck truly stood out as a rare gem, just like the wood duck itself. Visitors had the chance to memorialize this masterpiece at our photo station, capturing memories with our quacky celebrity.

But the fun didn’t stop there! TRAP BOB also led a communal art project, inviting participants to unleash their creativity by adding their own splash of color to a large mural, transforming it into a lively duck pond scene. It was a true testament to the power of community collaboration and artistic expression.

As the Crush Frunk Brass Band melody filled the air, guests grooved to the rhythm of their infectious tunes. Comprised of talented young musicians from UDC, BSU, and Howard, Crush Frunk brought the party to life with their banging beats, setting the perfect soundtrack for a day of fun.

Of course, no duck party would be complete without treats for our fine-feathered friends! At the duck feed station, guests could create their own duck-friendly snacks, learning that bread is sour for ducks and discovering alternative treats like peas, oats, grapes, and lettuce. It was a delicious treat for the ducks and an educational experience for everyone involved.

Custom friendship bracelets were a big hit for those looking to add a personal touch to their Duck Pond Party experience. One little girl proudly sported her creation, adorned with the heartfelt message “I ♥ Ducks,” spreading joy and camaraderie throughout the event.

But the fun didn’t end there. From hula hoops to ladder golf and even mini-games like Connect Four, there was no shortage of entertainment for kids and adults alike. Laughter filled the air as families bonded over friendly competition and shared experiences.

Let’s not forget about the delicious outdoor fare provided by Southwest Catering Company. From juicy chicken to savory potatoes and crisp veggies, their mouthwatering offerings were the perfect fuel for a day of outdoor fun and festivities. To complement the food, guests could have Duck Duck Juice, which was lemonade.

Last but certainly not least, guests had the chance to test out the MID’s cargo e-bike, zipping around the bike lanes with ease and convenience. The opportunity to sign up to borrow the e-bike at no cost was a great way to promote eco-friendly transportation and community engagement.

As another unforgettable Duck Pond Party came to a close, one thing was abundantly clear –– this event isn’t just about ducks; it’s about fostering a strong sense of community and belonging. From neighbors to families and everything in between, the Duck Pond Party brings Southwest together to celebrate unity, community, creativity, and fun. Here’s to many more quack-tastic adventures in the years to come! 🦆✨
