Neighborhood Claw Machine

By Ann Farley

Walking by an unadorned, tall, narrow traffic box reminded me of one of those claw machines that you find in an arcade. By adding bright color and an unexpected element to the street, it stops locals and visitors alike who think, “what is this?” And I love the idea that upon closer look, there are prizes just beckoning to you from inside, at the moment out of reach, but oh so close if you just head the right way. The prizes are treasures of the SWBID neighborhood, and maybe seeing the array of colorful options will make someone think, “I didn’t know that was here! Let’s find it!”
