ArtRX
In 2026, we launched the ArtRX program which was an open invitation for artists and cultural thinkers to help us shape public space. In 2026, we received over 90 applications and selected three finalists with our selection committee from the neighborhood. Here are the three projects:

Southwest Hide and Seek
SW Hide and Seek is an Easter egg hunt! Colorful characters, buildings, and critters can be found around practically every corner along the 4th and I Street SW corridors. Look twice at stuff you see every day in Southwest. Imagination in everyday life. Walking to school. Walking a dog. Delivery drivers at work. Shopping. Ducks quacking. Passing the barrel houses. Wait, did that house just look at me?
Kelsey Merreck Wagner
Woven Together
Titled “Woven Together,” Kelsey Wagner’s project invites the Southwest neighborhood and Washington DC community to sit down at the loom and learn to weave with recycled materials. Once the project is completed, the series of vibrant weavings will adorn the trees around the Southwest Duck Pond in late summer.

Artist’s Way
The “Artists’ Way” is an outdoor art installation and tap-dance performance series that transforms SW DC’s emerging arts corridor into a living and breathing rhythmic space. The project makes use of tap dance, live music, and community-based participatory art creation to turn existing and transitional infrastructure into sites of cultural exchange and collective wellbeing. A community-created ground mural at the Southwest Library Park will serve as a visual expression of neighborhood identity. The mural will be unveiled through a public performance featuring local tap dancers and jazz musicians.
