Thanks to a group of talented local artists, Southwest DC has transformed its streets again into a vibrant canvas. The latest initiative wraps traffic control boxes with colorful, thought-provoking art, turning everyday infrastructure into public masterpieces. Here’s a closer look at six standout installations:


🐟 Hello Neighbor!

Artist: Kathleen Cole
Location: C St SW & 12th St SW
This piece features herons, ducks, rockfish, and crabs, celebrating the aquatic life of the nearby Potomac and Anacostia Rivers.


🦋 Vivid Metamorphosis

Artist: MisterAlek
Location: Maine Ave
A dynamic interplay of purple, orange, red, and turquoise hues symbolizes transformation and renewal, with butterflies representing evolution and freedom.


🕹️ Neighborhood Claw Machine

Inspired by arcade claw machines, this artwork invites viewers to discover the “prizes” of the SWBID neighborhood, encouraging exploration and curiosity.

🐦 Down By The River

This design celebrates the waterfowl at the edge of the Potomac River and the Washington Channel at The Wharf, such as the Great Blue Heron and the Great White Egret.
