Background info:

In 2014, the District Office of Planning’s Southwest Small Area Plan envisioned 4th Street SW as a vibrant town center. A decade later, with major growth and new parks underway, SWBID reassesses progress and engages the community—especially between I and M Streets SW.

In Spring 2025, SWBID will host visioning workshops with residents, businesses, and stakeholders to strengthen 4th Street’s identity, attract investment, support small businesses, and create welcoming public spaces. Made possible by Friends of Southwest, with Waterfront Village as the project implementation partner, these workshops will shape the corridor’s future.

Georgetown University’s Business School will also conduct a corridor needs assessment, analyzing retail strengths, gaps, and trends. Insights from both efforts will guide SWBID, community groups, and local officials in planning 4th Street’s next chapter.
